Communities can create a collection of maps that show the people, places, and resources susceptible to reoccurring flooding...
Coastal cities along the East Coast and Gulf of Mexico are vulnerable to storm surge and riverine flooding. In addition, low-lying coastal communities are experiencing reoccurring flooding from extreme high tides. In order to prepare for future flood impacts, communities need to see the potential extent of flooding.
On behalf of, and in coordination with, NOAA’s Office for Coastal Management, The Baldwin Group staff prepared data, wrote code, and designed the Coastal Flood Exposure Mapper tool.
Using the tool, communities can create a collection of maps that show the people, places, and resources susceptible to reoccurring flooding, storm surge, or riverine flooding. The maps can be saved and downloaded for use with stakeholder engagement. In addition, code for the Coastal Flood Exposure Mapper has been used by communities to develop similar tools that fit more local needs.
